It is through light, of course, that we know dark, but that such a tale would (or could) be told through the metaphor of light is a remarkable testament to not just the talent but the imagination of Anthony Doerr.
I read an article recently that predicted this book would benefit more from having *not* won the National Book Award than it would have had it won. I have no idea whether that’s true or not, but it’s certainly worth every bit of hype and praise.
Extraordinary.
